JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Two Guilford Technical Community College cosmetology students won first place recently at the 2nd Annual Fantasy Hair and Makeup and Total Evening Elegance Contests presented by SkillsUSA at the North Carolina State Fair.
GTCC cosmetology student Oliver Hernández of Candor, N.C. won first place in the Fantasy Hair & Makeup Contest. Students were judged on the overall creativity, makeup application, hair design, costuming and the use of props.
GTCC cosmetology student Teleisha Benjamin of Paterson, N.J. won first place in the Total Evening Elegance Contest. Students competing in the contest were challenged to create an elegant hairstyle and makeup scheme using a cosmetic mannequin.
Students from seven NC community colleges competed in the contest on Oct. 24. More than $1,000 worth of hair and makeup equipment was given out along with $660 in cash prizes.
