JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Guilford Technical Community College’s Theater Program will hold auditions on Saturday, Jan. 30 and Monday, Feb. 1 for its spring production of Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning dark comedy “God of Carnage.”
“God of Carnage” begins as a calm, mature meeting of four mild-mannered adults that devolves into a no-holds-barred schoolyard brawl. Written by the same author of the Olivier and Tony Award-winning play “Art,” “God of Carnage,” tells the story of two sets of parents who meet to discuss a moment of violence between their children. Originally written in French, Reza’s acclaimed play about an undercurrent of chaos in the life of seemingly civilized adults was translated and reset in New York by Christopher Hampton. The play asks the question: “What is human nature?” in a hilarious and truthful way. The Broadway production won a Tony Award for Best Comedy in 2009.
“God of Carnage” is directed by GTCC Theater Director Joshua Waterstone with scenic, lighting design and technical direction by GTCC instructor Jody Tidwell. Performance dates are 7 p.m. April. 21-23 and 3 p.m. April 24 at the Center for Creative and Performing Arts Theatre located on the GTCC High Point Campus.
