JAMESTOWN, N.C. – Guilford Technical Community College will host a free open house for its Avionics Technology program 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at Aviation Center II, 819 Radar Road, Greensboro.

Visitors will have an opportunity to speak one-on-one with avionics faculty members, learn more about the program and potential career paths, and experience avionics through hands-on simulations. Representatives from Admissions and Financial Aid will be available to register students for the fall semester and file for financial aid. The Avionics Program offers both day and evening classes.

If you’re looking to begin a new career in the growing field of aviation or build on an existing aviation career, the avionics field offers a promising future. Avionics Technicians can earn as much as $85,000 a year according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And a recent report by CareerBuilder listed Avionics as one of the top 10 high-paying, non-desk jobs that doesn’t require a four-year degree. Avionics is also a natural fit for military veterans who already have the aptitude and experience to excel in the field.

GTCC offers the only Avionics Technology program in North Carolina. The curriculum provides individuals with the basic knowledge and skills to enter the avionics field as a technician and prepares students for the current avionics licensing agency examination.

Course work includes general aviation maintenance, sheet metal, airframe systems, electrical and electronic systems, practical wiring, navigation equipment, flight management and flight control systems and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Upon completion of the program, students will receive an associate in applied science in aviation electronics (avionics) technology.

For the past three consecutive years, GTCC’s Avionics Technology program has maintained an 85-90 percent job placement rate for its graduates at companies including Honda Aircraft Company, Landmark Aviation, HAECO, North State Aviation, Atlantic Aero, Inc. and Cessna Citation.
