JAMESTOWN, NC – Guilford Technical Community College will host its second annual Medical Job Fair, linking local employers with qualified health care professionals in the community. The free event will be held noon-3 p.m. Wednesday, November 4 at Medlin Campus Center on GTCC’s Jamestown Campus, 601 E. Main St., Jamestown. The job fair is open to all medical applicants including those from the public. Anyone with medical training or experience is invited to attend.
In addition, representatives from GTCC’s health care-related programs will be present to meet with prospective students interested in enrolling and pursuing a career in the field.
“This annual event demonstrates to the community that these fields are in-demand and it gives qualified applicants, students and the public the opportunity to speak with actual people, which is often hard to come by when applying for jobs online,” said Dan Grigg, student success specialist for GTCC’s Career Services and organizer of the Medical Job Fair. “The health care field is lucrative and very much in-demand locally and nationwide.”
Attendance at last year’s medical job fair is evidence of that demand. The event drew more than 500 job seekers who met with 30 different employers, including ComForcare Home Care Services, which hired several candidates as a result of the job fair.
“We found some great candidates looking to get started or build experience in the medical field at last year’s event,” said Richard Bober, owner of ComForcare Home Care Services in Greensboro. “We ended up hiring seven applicants from last year’s medical job fair. Just this year alone, I have hired over 25 applicants from GTCC’s medical programs.”
This year’s event will host up to 35 employers including ComForcare Home Care Services, LabCorp, Cone Health, Wake Forest Baptist Health, Novant Health, UNC Health (High Point Regional Hospital) and FastMed Urgent Care. The companies will be targeting the following majors and health care fields:
- Nursing – CNA/RN/LPN
- Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene
- Emergency Medical Science
- Medical Assisting
- Medical Office Administration/Healthcare Management
- Medical Office Billing and Coding/Medical Records
- Pharmacy Technology
- Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
- Surgical Technology.
