Ninety days.

That’s all it takes to make a significant change in one’s life.

Chisa D. Pennix-Brown knows because she’s lived it. By spending 90 minutes each day working toward a specific goal for 90 consecutive days, over time Pennix-Brown has launched a business (Lady Bizness), purchased a car and published a book.

Now the marketing and social media queen and CEO of her company, Lady Bizness, is sharing her goal-achieving action plan through her debut book, “The 90 Day Focus,” as well as two new accompanying courses she’ll be teaching through Guilford Technical Community College’s Continuing Education division:  Financial Freedom and Time Management.  The courses are designed for those who are interested in making changes in their personal and professional lives.

“90 days is enough time to make a serious change,” said Pennix-Brown of Greensboro. “This is the time. Whatever resolutions you had in January, you’ve forgotten about them. Let’s think about what you want to do with the rest of the year.”

Her hope is that people who take the course and read the book will discover they have marketable skills and will embrace their potential.

“It puts you into an entrepreneurial mindset,” she said. “Even if they didn’t think they wanted to start a business, there is a way for you to start something and use your skill. I want people to think about another stream of income and something they can give to the world. If you share that gift with people it will make you feel better.”

90 Day Focus is about taking a personal goal and professional goal and marrying the two, Chisa said. And it all starts with your finances.

“I’m a big believer that you have to be a good steward of your finances,” she said. If your money is messed up, your life will be messed up.”

The Financial Freedom hands-on workshop teaches participants how to save money, create a budget and stick to it. When facing a goal, it’s crucial to breakdown all the steps in between to achieve that goal, Pennix-Brown said, and maintaining motivation throughout the process by celebrating those milestones — large or small — that happen along the way.

“Everybody says they want to start a business, but they need steps to continue being motivated,” she said. “People don’t celebrate their little successes.”

Through her Time Management course, participants will develop skills to enhance their productivity and sharpen their focus in order to achieve their goals. Pennix-Brown says the biggest challenges people face when trying to tackle a goal is saying ‘no’ and being patient. It’s not a race and it’s not a competition.

“People don’t know how to say ‘no’ or they want immediate gratification or they feel like they want to do so many things and don’t know where to start,” she said. “Everybody struggles with time management. This is about how to spend that time each day. Once people start seeing (the 90 Day Focus) is working for them, they start saying ‘no’ to stuff they don’t need to do anymore, and they are goal-driven. It’s not a competition; this is your focus.”
