Nyla Allen, forward women's basketball teamJAMESTOWN, N.C. – Nyla Allen, a forward on Guilford Technical Community College’s women’s basketball team, was named the NJCAA’s Division II Player of the Week for games played Nov. 17-23.Allen started out the week with 14 points and 13 rebounds against Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute on Nov. 20 (86-51 win) and gave a powerhouse performance during the Nov. 22 game against Bryant & Stratton College, where Allen scored 31 points and picked up 18 rebounds and eight steals (72-70 win in overtime).”Nyla has been great leader for us from day one,” said Bobby Allison, head women’s basketball coach at GTCC. “She is the vocal and emotional leader for us, and as you can see the bigger the game, the bigger she plays for us.”

This week, Allen continued to be a key player with 21 points and 12 rebounds against Catawba Valley Community College on Dec. 2. To date, Allen is currently averaging 16.5 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.

The 5’9″ sophomore is a native of East Orange., N.J. She attended Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro and is currently majoring in physical therapy at GTCC.

The GTCC Lady Titans hold an overall 7-1 record and a Region X record of 4-0. Next up, the team will play against Brunswick Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 in Supply, N.C. For a complete season schedule, visit
