GTCC Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Receives Honors for 2017-2018, Named Club of the Year

JAMESTOWN, N.C. – The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society at Guilford Technical Community College recently received several honors for outstanding achievement during the 2017-2018 academic year.

The honor society was named as PTK’s Club of Year, President and Student Ambassador John Kelly received the Ray Moody Leadership Scholarship and Janet Barclay was honored as Club Advisor of the Year.

The recognition was especially significant for Barclay who will retire this year after 30 years of service to GTCC. She is a second-generation community college educator who was instrumental in the organization of Alpha Pi Alpha at GTCC. In its nomination of Barclay for Club Advisor of the Year, the chapter stated in the nomination, “Janet had the foresight to believe that PTK would provide opportunities for empowering students, as well as scholarship opportunities. Through her service, she has shown the true meaning of commitment.”

The awards were presented during a special reception in April.

Phi Theta Kappa is the world’s largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year colleges. Guilford Technical Community College’s PTK Chapter, Alpha Pi Alpha, was founded in 1989. The honor society rewards students who have achieved a 3.25 or higher grade point average.
